Overview

“Odoe” refers to the earth embankment circling the castle grounds, outside the inner moat, or inside the outer moat. In earlier times, many large pine trees called “The Odoe Pines” stood in this area reminding people of the old castle. Although the trees gradually reduced its numbers, its landscape and scenic beauty was loved by many locals. It is said that the designation of the city tree, the “kuromatsu (black pine),” was inspired by these Odoe Pines.
